The Xavier School for Gifted Youth

Dr. Charles Frances Xavier, or Professor X as he is known to his students, opened the Xavier School for Gifted Youth in Vigilance, Virginia, the year after the city's construction. Ostensibly a private institute providing an enlightened alternative to the more cookie-cutter instruction given by the public school system, the School for Gifted Youth is highly selective and also highly secretive, accepting only those that Professor X deems worthy.

The Aegis Initiative is well aware, of course, that these individuals consist of Awakened humans, mutants and Sliders.

As the most powerful telepath known to Aegis, Professor X plays an important role in identifying those who would serve the Initiative well with their unique abilities. Equally important is his aptitude in guiding those blessed with powers beyond normal human potential, children and young adults alike, to master and control their gifts. Sliders and mutants are both welcome at his Institute - the former to regain some measure of mastery over their lost or suppressed abilities and the latter to fully realize their potential. A calm and sagacious man, Professor X has served this role now for the last fourteen years; with the arrival of the alien menace, his unique brand of mentorship may be needed now more than ever.

  • The West Wing
The suites in this half of the mansion are occupied by young men and women currently enrolled in the School for Gifted Youth. They come from all over the nation, and though a few become aware of the school through word of mouth, the majority are recruited through Professor X's active search for those who are in need of the assistance he can provide. Their families are generally aware that their sons and daughters have been invited to attend a private boarding school; on the whole, discretion is largely maintained. Professor X generally discourages visitors and Aegis operatives from entering this half of the school, though he makes exceptions for those who graduated from the program themselves.

  • The East Wing
On the occasion that Sliders and other visitors require more intensive training or a personalized program of a longer duration, Professor X graciously invites them to stay in the vacant rooms in the eastern wing of the mansion for as long as he considers necessary. As the rooms are much nicer than the barracks provided by Aegis, few fail to take him up on his generosity. The School is not to be treated as a hotel or a bed and breakfast, however, and Professor X has no qualms about disabusing those who check in with such notions.

  • The Danger Room
Possibly the highlight of the School, the Danger Room combines state of the art technology with Professor X's own formidable mind to create extremely realistic holographic environments - all highly dangerous and somewhat over the top, of course. Originally a standard training room filled with dummies and mechanical projectiles, the Danger Room now serves as the main means by which mutants and Sliders can hone their abilities in relative safety. Holograms are often tailored to the specific trainee and their powers, and Professor X makes a point of personally sitting in on such sessions at least once or twice a week to provide pointers or to alter the hologram as necessary. For those seeking the kind of thrill that only active combat can provide, the Danger Room retains its original build as well - the mechanical menaces, traps, and dangers remain very much in place and ready for any challenger to take on.

  • Cerebro
Cerebro? Never heard of it. There's certainly no telepathy-enhancement device in Professor X's private chambers that amplifies his powers to unspeakable levels to find anyone in the world and invade their privacy at any time, no sir. Unsubstantiated rumors passed down by mischievous youths.
