Power Naturalization
Due to slight variations between physical laws in different planes of existence, all supernatural abilities (telepathy, magic, chi focus, anything a normal human being in real life could never accomplish regardless of how much training they receive) and some advanced technologies (anything that could not exist in the real world, because of engineering impossibilities. Examples include power sources that rely on imaginary materials or forces like GN Drives, or technology that is impossible by modern understanding of physics like faster than light engines or laser swords.) will not function very well when taken out of their home planes. The results of trying to use such things can be anything from fruitless to dangerous; nine times out of ten, they will either backfire horribly or simply not work.
However, that does not mean that your powers are permanently inaccessible. The main laboratory at the Aegis headquarters is constantly devoted to helping Sliders adjust to life in our dimension. Here is what that means for you:
1) When your character initially arrives in the game, they will find that any high-tech or magical toys/powers they possess will either not work at all or will work in an incredibly dangerous and improper manner. You may choose the degree of dysfunction at your discretion.
2) After your character has been in the game for 1 month, reply to this post with a link to your character's 1st IC post, and the boys and girls at the lab will create a phase 1 prototype technique or device to stabilize your character's abilities. The stabilizer will work, but it will always be somewhat impractical. It could take the form of a pill that lets you briefly use powers normally at the cost of horrible side effects like nausea or blindness when it wears off. It could take the form of a 60 pound backpack full of science-y bits that power your toys or abilities. It could take the form of a device you plug into a generator or or other power source that creates a field of a determined radius within which you can act normally. These are simply suggestions; you are welcome to choose another appropriate form for your character's stabilizer.
3) After you have the phase 1 prototype, you can get someone from Research and Development to submit a research proposal to work on the phase 2 prototype which, if completed, will be much more practical than the phase 1. It could be a device that hangs on your belt comfortably, pills like in phase 1 that don't have awful side effects, or something else of this nature.
If you happen to have identical powers as someone else in the game (if you apped an earthbender when we already had another earthbender), any equipment that you receive for this will work for either of you. Powers that are similar but not actually the same are a different case. For example, Lina Inverse from Slayers is a sorceress who can cast magical spells and blow stuff up, but that doesn't mean her prototypes would help any other wizards out unless they were from her world and using the same kind of magic. Multiple partial overlaps, however, MAY help get the phase 2 prototype completed faster.
Unfortunately, some abilities will never work, for obvious plot reasons. Any form of ability to travel to other dimensions on your own power is right out, as is time travel. Having enough raw power to blow up cities or level mountains will also be unsupported in the game; such abilities will be limited accordingly.
